Dicamba and Xtend Update

As we anticipated at the turn of the New Year, two new herbicide formulations designed for use with Roundup Ready 2 Xtend Soybeans have been approved by the Environmental Protection Agency and both Departments of Ag in South and North Dakota.

Xtendimax from Monsanto and Engenia from BASF both received state registrations in the last few days, clearing them for use this spring with Roundup Ready 2 Xtend Soybeans.

We also learned last week that our grain partners will accept Xtend Soybeans from 2017 new crops. With that, Wheat Growers will be accepting new crop 2017 Xtend Soybeans at all Wheat Growers elevators come harvest.

Because using Xtendimax or Engenia with Roundup Ready 2 Xtend Soybeans will require careful attention to the label recommendations, especially buffer zones, equipment recommendations, spray conditions, etc., Wheat Growers is working hard to ensure our member producers have the best possible resources and information available to them. Here’s what’s in place so far:

  • We will be providing producer information training later in February or early March. Contact your Wheat Growers sales agronomist to be placed on an invitation list to be notified once those dates are in place.

  • We are providing advanced dicamba application training for our applicators so that any field applied by Wheat Growers this spray season will be applied by applicators who have gone through this spray training.

  • Wheat Growers will also operate several dedicated rigs especially to apply dicamba products to Xtend soybeans.

We are taking all these steps to help ensure that dicamba products are carefully applied according to the product label requirements. To schedule your application from a Wheat Growers applicator, contact your sales agronomist.

We will publish future updates as we have new information to pass along. If you have additional questions, please email us at contactus@sdwg.com
